centres d’artistes autogérés du Quebec (RCAAQ)
and its new bookstore,
Founded in 1986, the RCAAQ includes 68 artist-run centres and self-managed cultural organizations all across Quebec. Functioning as true crucibles of creative talent and incubators of contemporary art practice, these centres organize more than 800 activities each year. The RCAAQ offers its members continuing education, professional development and promotional support services. Its Web portal keeps the public informed of members’ activities along with those of many other galleries and museums.
These services are now complemented by Formats, a newly opened bookstore dedicated to the contemporary visual arts. Formats also offers a program of events ranging from book launches to workshops, conferences, readings and performances.
VOX, centre de l’image
VOX is an arts presentation venue founded in 1985 that is mainly involved in organizing exhibitions of contemporary image practices, ranging from photography to video, multimedia, the written word and film, and is also active in research, education and publishing. Now occupying the entire fourth floor of the 2-22 building, with more than half of its space dedicated to exhibitions, VOX will offer programming resolutely oriented toward research and experimentation by artists and curators alike, and the long-term dissemination of their work both nationally and internationally.
